NUMARK MIXDECK OVERVIEW

The Numark Mixdeck is a complete DJ system with a standard two deck & mixer layout.

In addition to that however it is perfect for Multimedia Djs that want the flexibility to be able to mix from a variety of music sources.

Media formats include CD’s, MP3 CDs, CDR, USB Flash Drives, your ipod/iphone, your computer and even external analog devices such as a turntable.

The Numark Mixdeck DJ has a touch-sensitive turntable with controls for cueing and scratching on each deck. CDs are loaded into a slot on the front of each deck, no CD tray to damage.

Each deck also has its own USB flash MP3 drive allowing you to carry literally thousands of songs without taking CDs along to a performance.

This system is a software controller as well and is compatible with both MAC & PC and connects to your laptop via USB cable. It is a MIDI device which makes it compatible with most DJ software.

The MIDI connection allows you to accept audio inputs from your laptop giving you the ability to mix it with music from your CDs.

The ipod dock allows you to play music from your ipod library and to record your mix to the ipod. Once the ipod is docked you dont need to touch it, the mixer has its own ipod fader & menu controls.

The unit is a single portable integrated unit with the mixer built in. Each of the three input channels has a gain and three-band EQ/rotary kills. The mixer controls the audio from the built in turntables, incoming computer audio , and external sound sources like turntables & MP3s players. There are two sets of stereo inputs for external sources. Mixdeck also has replacable crossfaders, with switchable reverse and slope.

The cueing section includes dual 1/8 and 1/4-inch headphone outputs, cue gain, and crossfader control and a 1/4-inch mic input. MIXDECK has XLR and RCA stereo Main outputs, Booth and Record outputs for mixing to different locations and systems and recording to iPod. There’s also stereo output from both decks for timecode control interfaces like Serato Scratch LIVE software.

The Numark Mixdeck is a new offering from Numark and offers a huge number of sound sources. It’s a pretty impressive little unit. The two large, backlit displays on each deck are clear even in dim lighting conditions making it easy to see BPM, CD and MP3 text tags. navigate through ipod folders, and keep an eye on the various effects.

The large touch-sensitive platters are illuminated & have a solid smooth feel providing easy control of tracks on discs, flash drives, and computer. The players have independent start-stop controls that allow you to adjust it to a more classic “vinyl on turntable” feel. The controls are very well organized and easy to understand. Mixdeck also has a number of special beat-synced DSP effects including chop, echo, filter, flanger, pan, and phaser.

It also offers beat and pitch tools for beat matching and harmonic mixing. It will automatically analyze a tracks BPM and display it on the screen. The BPM can also be set manually.The pitch-bend buttons on each track also allow for quick on the fly tweaks.

This is a well built unit for any serious DJ who wants a portable system with no limitations on the type of music sources with the added traditional turntable setup.

This Mixdeck is getting some great industry feedback although like with all new systems it will take some time before any potential issues come to light, but form what we can see this is a sweet product, highly recommended, although it comes with a higher price tag than some units in its class.

RECOMMENDATION: You Might want to try the full version of Native Instruments Traktor Pro or Numark Cue Professional software for a more complete Numark Mixdeck DJ software.

ISSUES: Forum feedback on the Numark Mixdeck is generally very positive. There have been a number of reports of problems with some of the buttons wearing out. Keep in mind that this is a entry level unit great for new DJs or a backup system but may not hold up under heavy use or “miss-use”. This unit has more customer reviews than any other controller we have seen, generally positive.
