Numark iDJ3 Overview:
The Numark iDJ3 is a light weight compact & portable complete dj system perfect for the beginner or traditional DJ who wants to transition from classic vinyl records to computer based mixing.
This is a good low cost choice, it will provide all the basic features found on most DJ systems.
The Numark iDJ3 DJ is a software controller with a Midi interface that connects directly to your Mac or PC via USB cable.
You keep all the music & the DJ software you want to perform with on your laptop and control it with the iDJ3 for performing or recording your mixes.
The iDJ3 has the standard dual turntable & audiomixer setup. The Jog dials are touch sensitive allowing you to stop & scratch at any point by just touching the top of the turntable.
It has a crossfader for fading between the two decks & up faders for controlling the volume, & cueing controls.
The Ipod dock has controls for volume & browsing the ipod folders & tracks. You can play from & record to the Ipod but you cannot mix from it.
It has an on board audio card & output jacks for connection to a sound system. It also has a jack for headphones.
The unit provides all the functions of a clasic DJ system including scratching, beat matching , mixing & looping.
Supports M4A, AIFF, WAV, MP3, FLAC and OGG audio files.
Virtual DJ LE software by Atomix productions comes free with the Numark iDJ3. The software allows you to create loops and hot cues for mixing like pro DJs & enables you to sort your library by genre, BPM or artist and works with your iTunes music library.
While LE provides adequate functionality for the beginner, if you plan to use it professionally we suggest you upgrade to the Pro version of the software.
Because the system is Midi based it is compatible with a just about any DJ software such as “mix meister Fusion”, “Serato Itch”, “Virtual vinyl” or Traktor”. Some idj3s have been shipped with Mixvibes” . By the way the Numark CUE software is the same as VirtualDJ, but sold under the Numark brand.
The Numark idj3 is a relatively new offering. Its portability and iPod doc make it an attractive choice for the mobile DJ.
RECOMMENDATION: You Might want to try the full version of Native Instruments Traktor Pro or Numark Cue Professional software for a more complete Numark Mix Deck Quad DJ software.
ISSUES: Forum feedback on the iDJ3 is generally positive with the exception of a few comments about the quality of construction & other minor iDJ3 problems. Units like the DJ3 are targeted at entry level DJs and should not be considered high end equipment. Having said that the functionality of the idj3 is top of the line for the price.

“The iDJ3, Mixtrack, and Mixtrack Pro all have a very fragile & un-repairable USB input on them that is machine-soldered with teeny tiny little leads onto an I/O circuit board. If any of those leads break, you’re screwed. The little cheap circuit board is sold by Numark for MORE than price of the entire controller. The controllers are only 7-bit toys, anyway. Stay way.”
